Alverstoke CofE School Retrofit Works
RAFT is currently in the process of helping to decarbonise Alverstoke CofE School in Gosport, with work commencing on site over the summer holidays in 2024. RAFT completed an initial Heat Decarbonisation Study, followed by feasibility works and detailed retrofit design.
-
The existing gas boiler will be removed to eradicate the consumption of fossil fuel burning for heating at the school.
-
Installing a large ASHP allows for the boiler to be removed. The ASHP will be powered using electricity instead of fossil fuels.
-
Insulating the existing walls will reduce heat loss in the winter, reducing the amount of energy required to heat the school and creating more comfortable classroom environments.
-
In addition to the cavity wall insulation, insulating the kitchen roof will create a more comfortable environment in the school kitchen.
-
This reduces heat loss from hot water distribution (heat is lost through the pipes!), and is part of the combined measures included in removing the boilers.
Work in progress on site at Alverstoke school shows where the plant room where the boiler has been removed from as part of the ongoing decarbonisation works.
