School Premises Manager Workshops
RAFT offers borough-wide training sessions for premises managers, focusing on increasing knowledge of building efficiency, guiding practical actions to help reduce energy use and developing understanding of retrofit and decarbonisation techniques and processes.
RAFT is aware that the premises managers’ role is integral to improving energy efficiency in schools. The training programme is designed to fill gaps in construction and maintenance knowledge, build on practical skills and gain an understanding of the next steps needed to manager future capital works projects.
Working with premises managers is essential to RAFT’s wider network of school engagement across the UK.
The sessions are a great opportunity to learn and share knowledge, and connect with other premises managers. A core part of this engagement programme is winning hearts and minds, and changing attitudes, through knowledge sharing and forming new networks of support.
The programme aims to support premises managers in:
Identification of opportunities/actions to improve building performance and retrofit.
Identifying potential ways to save on energy bills, including fabric, services, lighting, appliances, and behaviour.
Implementing as many changes as they can to make improvements to building performance, health and comfort and climate resilience.
Networking and sharing with peers at other local schools.
Working with services engineer to address heating system questions and advice on other related topics.
Monitoring progress, identifying actions and savings to date and identify next steps.
Finally, but most urgently, the current energy crisis drives an immediate need to optimise building energy efficiency across all uses to reduce the cost impact on schools as much as possible. This programme seeks to use the training to optimise a wide range of means of reducing energy bills.
